13 Flame lost

High severity Rheem/Ruud 802P / 80MDP 80% two-stage furnace (UT 1028-928 IFC)R95PRGPE/RGLE

What the control is telling you

Flame was proven and then lost during the heat call. On 802P/R95P, 5 losses in one call cause a 1-hour lockout (10 and 13 alternate).

Applies to: 802P/80MDP (802PA050-150); R95P (R95PA040-115); RGPE/RGLE 2-stage 80+

Likely causes

  • Dirty flame sensor
  • Low or fluctuating gas pressure
  • Pressure switch dropping out (wind, blocked vent, water in hoses, long vent)
  • Poor ground or reversed polarity
  • Flame not carrying across all burners
  • R95P: limit circuit opening

Test and repair steps

  1. Clean the flame sensor and check its wire to the IFC.
  2. Check gas supply and manifold pressure under full fire.
  3. Check whether a pressure switch opens during the run: hoses, water/moisture, vent blockage or length, high wind, blocked heat exchanger.
  4. Check L1/neutral polarity and ground.
  5. Confirm all burners light and stay lit.
  6. R95P check the limit circuit for opening.
  7. Lockouts clear when the fault is fixed and power is cycled; a soft lockout can also be cleared by removing the heat call for more than 2 but less than 20 seconds.
