E180 Outdoor air temperature sensor failure

Medium severity EL296UHVLennox SL280UHVLennox SL297NV

What the control is telling you

Outdoor sensor reading is shorted or out of range after the control has recognized it as installed.

Applies to: EL296UHV(X) series furnaces (integrated control 103130-XX and 107045-XX)

Likely causes

  • Failed outdoor sensor
  • Shorted/open sensor wiring
  • Sensor removed after configuration

Test and repair steps

  1. Measure sensor resistance and compare to the temperature/resistance chart in the installation instructions.
  2. Check sensor wiring for shorts or opens.
  3. Replace the sensor if out of range.
  4. If the sensor was intentionally removed, redo configuration so it shows 'not installed' in the indoor unit About screen.
  5. Clears 30 seconds after the fault recovers.
