PC49 Compressor over-current failure

High severity Midea DLCURA ducted single-zone inverter heat pump (outdoor)

What the control is telling you

The compressor drew too much current.

Applies to: DLCURAH18-60 AAK/ABK single-zone heat pump outdoor units (18K-60K, regular and High Heat)

Likely causes

  • High head pressure (dirty coil, fan, overcharge)
  • Low supply voltage
  • Compressor mechanical problem
  • Drive board fault

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: Turn off and lock out power at the outdoor disconnect and wait for the inverter capacitors to discharge before touching the outdoor board or compressor wiring.
  2. Clean the outdoor coil and confirm fan operation.
  3. Check supply voltage is within 187-253 V.
  4. Check refrigerant charge.
  5. Check compressor windings and wiring; replace compressor or drive board as indicated.
