12 flashes Flame sensed with gas valve off
What the control is telling you
The control senses flame when the gas valve should be closed. Gas valve stays off, inducer on, blower on heating speed.
Applies to: EL195UHNE furnaces with ignition control 103217-03 or 107163-01 (red LED)
Likely causes
- Gas valve leaking through
- Gas valve energized by miswiring
- Flame sensor shorted to ground / control fault
Test and repair steps
- Warning: Shut off gas to the furnace (valve switch by hand only).
- Look for flame at the burner with no call for heat; if present the valve is leaking - replace it.
- Check the gas valve wiring (pins 9 and 12) for a short that powers the valve.
- Check the flame sensor wire for shorts; if no flame is present, replace the control.
