What the control is telling you

The compressor drive module (IPM) got too hot, so the compressor stops.

Likely causes

  • Dried or missing thermal paste under the IPM
  • Heat sink screws loose
  • Poor outdoor airflow or very high load
  • Board fault

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: Kill power and let the outdoor board capacitors bleed down (about 20 min, or meter the DC bus below 20 V) before touching the inverter board.
  2. Check thermal paste between the IPM and heat sink and that the heat sink is tightly screwed down.
  3. Clean the outdoor coil and check the outdoor fan.
  4. If the code continues, replace the outdoor board.
