Goodman · Heat pump
03 Short cycling
What the control is telling you
Each of the last 4 run cycles lasted under 3 minutes, with no protector trip and both pressure switches closed. While this code is active the minimum compressor run time is raised from 30 seconds to 3 minutes.
Applies to: Communicating 2-stage condensers and heat pumps with the PCBHR104 or PCBHR105 outdoor control (7-segment display): ASXC16/18, GSXC16/18, DSXC16/18, ASZC16/18, GSZC16/18, DSZC16/18
Likely causes
- Thermostat call dropping in and out (loose wire, bad thermostat, poor location)
- Faulty compressor relay on the outdoor control
Test and repair steps
- Warning: Kill power to the outdoor unit before touching wiring, the compressor terminals or the control.
- Check the thermostat and its wiring for loose or intermittent connections; repair or replace.
- Check the compressor relay on the control; replace the control if it misbehaves.
- Clears after 4 normal cycles in a row, or by power cycling the 24 VAC.
