14 Ignition lockout

Critical severity 59TP6A58SB0A/58SB1A

What the control is telling you

The furnace failed to light and prove flame in 4 tries. Auto-resets after 3 hours.

Applies to: 59TP6A two-stage variable-speed ECM multipoise condensing gas furnace, all sizes (040-10 to 120-22)

Likely causes

  • Gas off or manual shutoff closed
  • Igniter, gas valve or flame sensor fault
  • Low inlet gas pressure
  • Poor ground / flame sensor grounded

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: Shut off 115-V power and gas, and lock/tag out before working inside the furnace; there may be more than one power source.
  2. Follow the code 34 diagnostic steps; 14 is the lockout after 34 repeats.
  3. Confirm gas valve and manual shutoff are open.
  4. Reset by briefly cutting 115 V, or 24 V at SEC1/SEC2 (not at W/W1, G or R).
  5. Watch a full ignition cycle 15-second prepurge, 17-second igniter warm-up, gas valve opens, 2-second flame-proving period starting 5 seconds after the gas valve relay closes.
