Gree · Heat pump
E1 High pressure protection
What the control is telling you
The system tripped on high refrigerant pressure (on the GMV6 the high-pressure transducer reached about 609 psi). The compressor stops; in cooling the indoor fan keeps running, in heating the whole unit shuts down.
Applies to: Gree Sapphire 9-24k (SAP..HP230V1A), Livo GEN4 30-36k (4LIV..HP230V1A), Vireo GEN3 9-24k (3VIR..HP115/230V1A), Multi21+ 18-24k multi-zone (MULTI..HP230V1CO), GMV6 Ultra Heat Mini VRF 36-60k (GMV-V..WL/C-T(U))
Likely causes
- Overcharge of refrigerant
- Dirty coil, blocked filter or air path restricted at the indoor or outdoor unit
- Outdoor fan not running or running slow
- Very high ambient temperature or air recirculating at the condenser
- Faulty high-pressure switch or transducer (GMV6)
Test and repair steps
- Clean the filters and both coils and clear anything blocking the outdoor unit discharge or intake.
- Confirm the outdoor fan (cooling) or indoor fan (heating) runs at normal speed.
- Check that the refrigerant charge matches the nameplate plus line-set adder; recover and weigh in if overcharged.
- Confirm the service valves are fully open and there is no restriction in the lines.
- GMV6 compare the high-pressure sensor voltage with the pressure/voltage chart in Appendix 3; replace the transducer if it disagrees with gauges.
- Restart and watch head pressure; the Multi21+ needs a power reset to clear a high-pressure lockout.
