Yellow 6 flashes Open start circuit / lockout (older ComfortNet board)
What the control is telling you
Yellow LED 6 flashes. Red OFF = open start circuit; red ON = lockout after the fault was seen 4 times. Same as 06 / L6 on newer boards.
Applies to: Earlier ComfortNet condensers/heat pumps with the PCBHR101-103 or PBBGR101-102 outdoor control (green, yellow and red status LEDs) - ASXC/DSXC/ASZC/DSZC revisions before the PCBHR104 change
Likely causes
- Compressor start winding open
- Failed run capacitor or capacitor wiring
- Compressor not wired correctly to the control
- Faulty compressor wiring
Test and repair steps
- Warning: Kill power to the outdoor unit before touching wiring, the compressor terminals or the control.
- Check the run capacitor and its wiring; replace if weak or open.
- Measure compressor winding resistance (C-S, C-R, R-S); an open start winding means compressor replacement.
- Check compressor wiring and connections at the control and terminals.
- Lockout (red ON) needs a 24 VAC power cycle to clear.
