Likely causes

  • Compressor run winding open
  • Compressor not wired correctly to the control
  • Faulty compressor wiring

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: Kill power to the outdoor unit before touching wiring, the compressor terminals or the control.
  2. Measure compressor winding resistance; an open run winding needs a compressor replacement.
  3. Check compressor wiring and terminal connections; repair as needed.
  4. To reset a lockout, interrupt the 24 VAC supply to the outdoor control (power cycle the low voltage), then retest.
